Doing Reconciliation is a comprehensive study about the urgent need to dismantle racism and work for reconciliation in both the church and world. It is about making peace between people, groups and structures, and building an environment of mutual respect, human rights and Shalom (the Hebrew concept for God’s societal harmony, order, blessing and prosperity).

Alexander Venter is a Vineyard pastor in South Africa. He is the author of three companion books, Doing Church, Doing Reconciliation and Doing Healing. Alexander also oversees a number of Vineyard churches in his region; and is on the national leadership of the Association of Vineyard Churches in South Africa. Since 1975, he has pastored churches in Zimbabwe, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Soweto.

This is a five DVD set that includes a leader guide and some bonus material on children and the small group and helpful tips for small group pastors.

Each course comes with a study booklet that the entire group can use for notes and further study. Each month we will continue to add new School of Ministry courses. 1. Authority to Heal – Ken Blue
Does God heal today? If so, why are so many people in pain around us? We have all heard stories of miraculous healings. But can we believe them? Why are some people healed and some not? Does God give ordinary Christians the authority to heal? The New Testament leaves no doubt about the church’s authority over Satan, sin and sickness. Yet the people of God today lack much of that original assurance and power, partly because certain erroneous ideas have taken root in our thinking. 2. Biblical Overview – Rick Williams
Christianity is essentially a historical religion. God’s revelation to man unfolds in history through a nation called Israel and a person called Jesus, and can only be understood in this context.

3. The Story-line of the Bible – Bill Jackson
There is an inner bond that unifies the Bible, a single storyline that serves as its framework. This means identifying the stories and sections in the Bible that are needed to move the story to its next
goal as the story searches for its proper ending.

4. Breakthrough: The Nature of the Kingdom of God – Derek Morphew
This course provides the student with an in-depth study of the biblical basis for understanding the ‘Kingdom of God’, Jesus’ most emphasized subject, thereby allowing the student to establish a sound foundation for their broader theological stance.

5. Christology – Derek Morphew
Christology follows the view of Christ used by the Church Fathers. Those who wrote the creeds summarized his Person and Work in terms of his redemptive journey, including his pre-existence, incarnation, life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension. Although this framework developed during the period of the Church Fathers, it can already be found within the New Testament, particularly in the apostolic preaching recorded in Acts.

6. Doing Church – Alexander Venter
This course equips the leaders of a church to articulate its mission, vision and philosophy of ministry. Although the course is very broad, it covers each area in significant depth, citing phases of God’s visitation.

7. Doing Healing – Alexander Venter
This course is written for both those who need healing and those who want to learn and practice the biblical approach to the ministry of healing.

8. Doing Reconciliation – Alexander Venter
Racism and the need for reconciliation and transformation is an issue for every Christian across the globe. It can be a stumbling block or a stepping stone in our growth and development as a person, church and nation, depending on how we respond to it. The church must lead the way in this matter. This course is an exercise in biblical theology and Christian ethics.

9. Empowered Evangelicals – Rich Nathan and Ken Wilson
Empowered Evangelicals examines the combination of the thoughtful, biblical approach of the Conservative Evangelical tradition with the vitality of the Pentecostal-charismatic movement. Believers of all backgrounds are given an insight into how to incorporate into their congregations the very best of differing traditions.

10. Genesis (1-11) – Don Williams
Genesis, meaning “beginnings” or “origins”, reveals the beginnings of creation, the human race and God’s chosen people. There is movement from the vast expanse of the universe to God’s special revelation and purposes for his people, Israel. The key figures are Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Each reveals the unfolding purpose of God’s plan for humanity.

11. Healthy Churches – Derek Morphew
This course is an interpretation, used with permission of the author, Christian Schwarz, of his book, Natural Church Development: A Guide to Eight Essential Qualities of Healthy Churches. It examines the details of church life and church growth.

12. Hebrews – Derek Morphew
This course covers one of the most difficult books in the New Testament and enables the student to make multiple and significant links between the Old and New Testament. The themes of the superiority of Christ in both His personage and in His ministering work, a better priesthood, covenant, tabernacle and faith are emphasized. It shows how the author of Hebrews made use of Greek Rhetoric, Jewish Midrash and Christian prophecy in a literary genre which is unique in the New Testament.

13. Introduction to Biblical Interpretation – Derek Morphew, Craig Keener and Quinton Howitt
This course covers the essentials of biblical interpretation, viz. the Fundamentals of Hermeneutics; Principles of Interpretation; Rules of Interpretation; Contextual Interpretation and Theological Interpretation; The Interpreter; Interpreting the Old Testament through the paradigm of the New Testament; Revelation and Interpretation. It is essential for all Christians.

14. Law & Grace; Conscience & License – Derek Morphew
The Law came through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The great watershed between the two testaments was revealed most sharply in the ministry and work of Jesus as he confronted and was confronted by the legalism of the scribes and Pharisees.

15. Natural Evangelism – J John
Natural Evangelism is an effective course on evangelism empowering every Christian to participate in the work of evangelism. This course includes thoughts for reflection at the end of each chapter. These are adapted from the exercises in the VBI Diploma module. Prayer, accompanied by reflection and meditation on these passages, will speak to your heart and reveal areas in which you can become active in your Christian life.

16. Prophetic Evangelism – Mark Stibbe
God wants believers to become more open to receive prophetic revelation about those who are not yet Christians. The Holy Spirit wants to speak through Christians to lost people, waking them up to the fact that Jesus is alive and knows their every thought, word and action. God wants to speak directly into the lives of the lost, through prophetic means such as dreams, visions, pictures and messages. He wants to use the gift of prophecy in evangelism.

17. Prophetic Ministry – Bruce Collins
This course helps people to begin to prophesy and then grow in their prophetic gifting. There are many practical guidelines on how prophecy can be handled responsibly and cultivated in the local church.

18. The Confession of the Kingdom of God – Don Williams
The Confession of the Kingdom relates the theology of the kingdom of God to our world, to the historical confession of the church and the Vineyard Statement of Faith. Don Williams is the primary
author of the Vineyard Statement of Faith.

19. Implications of the Kingdom of God – Derek Morphew and Peter Davids
This course draws attention to the implications of Jesus’ teachings and requires that the student consider in detail a wide variety of subjects like the Great Commission, the Parables of Jesus, the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, Spiritual Gifts and Phenomena, the Messianic Banquet, Cessationism, Dispensationalism, the Millennium, and the Church.

20. The Kingdom of God Among Us – Beth Wood & Mauricio Cunha
The context for ministry outlined in this course is the poor who live their lives in outright poverty, as experienced in the cities of Brazil and in Africa (Angola). Children die of preventable diseases, men are killed for no reason and women are ignored and taken advantage of. While the church of Christ wants to offer an adequate response to this situation, answers are few. This work offers biblical foundations to those who are rising up to face these challenges. It is written to equip them and encourage them to persevere. Jesus proclaims the Good News of the kingdom to the poor as a sign of his Messiahship (Luke 4:18–19; 7:18–22). Those who minister in poor communities face certain common challenges and weaknesses. When the sole legitimate goal presented to the body of Christ is to secure the salvation of individuals, the other good works which God has prepared for his kingdom tend to be neglected. God’s heart for the poor is seen clearly in his Word. He invites us to join him in what he is doing.

22. Worship – Andy Park
The purpose of this course is to give worship leaders advice that will enable them to survive, to thrive and to be helpful to the pastors and leaders who work with them. Becoming a worship leader is all about living close to and loving God. The fire of worship, which is stoked by love for God, requires
ongoing attention. Worship includes loving your family, the church and serving the poor.
